Sharing tutorials with students — and updating them
Once a tutorial looks right, Publish turns it into a link that opens directly in MakeCode.
Sharing
- In the Tutorial Builder, click Publish. It takes a few seconds.
- Copy the link MicroChat gives you.
- Share it however you share links with your class — your LMS, a slide, a shortened URL, a QR code.
When a student opens the link, MakeCode launches straight into your tutorial: the steps appear on the left, the blocks workspace on the right, and any kit extension is already loaded. Nothing to install, no account needed.
What students see
- MakeCode's tutorial mode with your steps, one at a time.
- A Done button at the end that drops them into the finished program to keep exploring.
- Possibly a short MakeCode notice that this content was shared by another user. That's MakeCode's standard message for tutorials published this way — it's expected, and students can carry on.
Updating a tutorial
Edit in the Tutorial Builder and click Publish again. This creates a new link. The old link keeps showing the old version — MakeCode links are snapshots and never change once made — so share the new one.
A simple habit: keep a single place (a doc or your LMS) where the "current" link lives, and update it there.
How long do links last?
They don't expire. A tutorial link you share this year still works next year.
Previewing first
Use Preview in MakeCode before publishing. It opens the tutorial exactly as students will see it, without creating a shareable link.
Finding your tutorials later
They're in My Chats with a purple Tutorial tag. Open one to see its chat, steps, and current published link.
