Joining a session as a student
You don't need an account to use MicroChat in class. Your teacher will give you a join code.
Steps
- Go to the MicroChat website.
- Click Join Code Session at the bottom of the login page.
- Type the join code your teacher gave you (8 letters and numbers).
- Pick an alias from the list — a fun animal name. This is your name inside the session. Remember which one you picked!
- Click Join.
You're in. Your chat may already have a message ready to go if your teacher set one up — just press send.
Coming back later
Left the page? Go back to Join Code Session, type the same code, and pick the same alias. Your chat and your program will be right where you left them.
What you can do
- Describe a program or game and MicroChat writes it.
- Look at the blocks and the JavaScript.
- Click Download to send it to your micro:bit or CodeCTRL.
- Ask MicroChat to explain or change things.
Limits to know about
- Your teacher sets how many messages you can send. Make them count.
- The session has an end date. After that, you can't send new messages.
- If the teacher pauses the session, wait until they resume it.
If the code doesn't work
- Check every letter and number. The code isn't case-sensitive.
- The alias must be one from the list.
- The session may be full, paused, ended, or archived. Ask your teacher.
Staying safe
MicroChat is for coding. Don't type your real name, address, phone number, or other personal details — MicroChat will remind you if you do.
