Can I print over wifi?
Considerations For Network Printing
While many 3D printers do support Wi-Fi connectivity, there are a few important considerations to be aware of:
1. Network Compatibility: Many institutional or enterprise networks have advanced security settings or configurations that are not compatible with simple devices like 3D printers. This includes captive portals, MAC address filtering, and certain encryption protocols.
2. 2.4GHz Requirement: Some printers require a dedicated 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network to connect reliably. Dual-band networks with a “smart switch” or automatic band steering often fail to connect, as the printer may not detect the correct frequency.
3. Security and Reliability: Wi-Fi connections are more prone to interference and disconnection than direct USB connection (or file transfers via thumb drive). For consistent and secure printing, we generally recommend using USB or SD card-based workflows when applicable.
Note: The FlashForge Adventurer 5M pro features a 5ghz wifi connection, and can be used over Ethernet or WiFi using FlashPrint software if provided a compatible network.
