My Hydroponics Light isn't working

First off, it's important to know that the micro:bit in your Hydroponics setup will need to be programmed in order for the light to function. You can find a tutorial and completed code for this in our Tutorial on the Learning Platform.

If the micro:bit has indeed been programmed with code to control the light and it still doesn't seem to be working, here are a few other things to check:

  • Breakout Board is on: The robotic components in the Hydroponics kit can't receive code from the micro:bit if the Breakout Board isn't turned on. Make sure the on/off switch is set to the 'on' position.
  • Lights connected to Sensor port: The LED Lights module connector cable needs to be connected to a 'Sensor' port on the Breakout Board, not a motor port.
  • LED Module is connected to the wall adapter: The Breakout Board alone doesn't supply enough power for the Hydroponics lights. Plug barrel end of the included wall adapter into the LED Light module, then plug the other end into a wall outlet. As mentioned above, make sure there is code on the micro:bit to control the lights and the Breakout Board is turned off.
  • Check Wall Adapter: If you have done all of the above items and your light still doesn't turn on, please double check the voltage of your adapter (see photos below). Forward Education ships products internationally and it's possible you may have received the wrong adapter.

If you have a 5V wall adapter you may need a replacement 12V adapter. Please submit a support ticket and our team would be happy to assist you.
