Let's review various strategies when presenting your Climate Action Kit to Online and In-Person Classes

Integrating new technology into the classroom is not always the greatest experience. We hope you find these tips helpful and allow you to present these courses to your students with confidence.

In-Class Tips

Here are some tips to take with you into the classroom to help ensure success for you and your students:

  • If using groups, mix students who require various levels of support to encourage working together.
  • Review the contents of the kit beforehand, so all students know what comes in a kit do this before giving students the kits
  • Assign specific kits to specific groups/students entrusting them with kit care and maintenance.
  • Laminate the information insert to prolong the use
  • Consider having students sign out the kits to support resource tracking
  • Consider numbering each kit allowing for easy tracking, and assigning to students.
  • If coding is new for your class review coding concepts for each lesson before coding begins
  • If extra support might be needed consider separating the sections into multiple classes

Online Class Tips

As online classes have become more of a reality here are some tips to help successfully facilitate these courses:

  • Use student's names as much as possible to check to understand
  • Consider an information session for parents before sending home ANY materials
  • Contract to be signed by parents and students detailing the kit is their responsibility while in their care
  • Review each piece of tech on a live call with students
  • Check-in at each section ( Project introduction, Big Idea, Take Action)
  • During each lesson in the Take Action section, check in with online learners  as the material here is generally much heavier than in earlier sections
  • If coding is new for your class review coding concepts for each lesson before coding begins
  • Do Coding your project together live online to better support students
  • Consider sharing onboarding resources, like the Get Started course, with parents to provide extra support at home
  • Consider having students document their process within their online classroom platform
